Escalation mode is currently the only source of Prototype Gear. Individual NPCs can drop Prototype Gear or a Prototype weapon, with chances increasing by tier.

Y8S1.1 introduced Targeted Loot to Escalation mode. It rotates daily across existing brands and gear sets in the loot pool, with higher tiers having a greater chance of dropping targeted items.
Escalation missions follow a rotating schedule. Only a selection of missions is available at a given time.
Starting a run costs Escalation Tokens. Higher tiers require more tokens and reward more on completion.
Failing a run means the tokens spent on that attempt are lost, so higher tiers carry more risk.
