For server owners & admins

Add the bot

Choose your server. The installing account needs Manage Server.

Allow your channel

Give the bot its five channel permissions in the channel where members ask for intel.

Run setup

The bot checks its permissions and posts a quick guide with examples for your members.

/intel setup channel:#intel events_channel:#events

events_channel is optional and turns on the calendar overview and start pings. Check everything with /intel status.

Channel permissions

Set these in each chosen channel

Give the bot access to your channel

Open Edit Channel → Permissions. Add the B.E.A.C.O.N. by ProtoTrack role and allow these permissions. Do the same in your events channel.

The bot asks for no server-wide permissions. It only sees the channels you open for it and replies only in the channels you set up.

Members need access too

Members who use the bot need View Channel, Send Messages and Read Message History in that channel. If your server uses rules screening, they must have accepted the rules first. The bot does not need Administrator or Manage Messages.

Server setup

Only members with Manage Server see and use these. Replies are only visible to you.

/intel setup channel:#intel: Set the channel for !intel replies. Running it again replaces the channels. Optional: events_channel:#events for the calendar overview and start pings.
/intel status: Show the configured channels and how many members opted in to pings.
/intel disable: Turn the bot off for this server and delete its settings, opt-ins and calendar overview.

Look it up

Type !intel and a name.

!intel: Show the help with example commands.
!intel 1 … !intel 8: Several matches? Pick one with !intel 1 to !intel 8 within 90 seconds.

Seasonal calendar & pings

Pings work on servers with an events channel. Nobody is subscribed by default; there are no DMs and no roles.

!intel events: Show running and upcoming events as a calendar card.
!intel events on: Get pinged in the events channel when a confirmed event starts.
!intel events off: Stop your pings.
!intel events status: Check whether your pings are on.

Troubleshooting

Find the problem. Check the fix.

/intel is not visible: You need Manage Server. If the bot was just added, wait a moment or re-invite it with the install link.
Setup reports missing permissions: The reply names the exact missing permissions. Allow them for the bot role in that channel and run /intel setup again. Nothing is saved until all permissions are in place.
The bot does not answer !intel: Check that you are in the channel from /intel setup, that you can view and send there and that you accepted the server rules. The bot does not reply in threads, forums or DMs.
Two bots answer: Another Intel bot listens in the same channel. Choose a separate channel for B.E.A.C.O.N.
No calendar overview: Run /intel setup again with events_channel and allow the five channel permissions there. If a moderator deletes the overview, the bot posts a new one.
No start ping: Turn pings on with !intel events on. Only confirmed start times ping; unclear or unconfirmed dates never do.
Remove the bot: Use /intel disable or remove the bot from the server. Both delete the server's settings and opt-ins.
